The cost of a loaf of bread was 17 cents, gasoline was 22 cents per gallon, and a postage stamp 3 cents back in 1954, the year of our incorporation. The Cleveland Browns won the NFL championship that year, and the New York Giants swept the Cleveland Indians in the World Series. Sam Snead won the third of his three green jackets at the Masters.
Closer to home, the Eagle Lake Property Owners Improvement Association, our original name, was formed in October of that year and Arthur F. Kroupa was elected as our first President. Lake and watershed quality of Eagle Lake was a focus of the original association, and remains so today.
